The Wayne State University Department of Pharmacy Practice is presenting a Continuing Education session titled, Controlled Substances: Limiting Risk, Maximizing Benefit on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, from 6-7 p.m. in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Auditorium.
Any health care professional seeking a controlled substance license in Michigan after September 1, 2019, is required to complete a one-time training covering a variety of opioid-related topics per the Michigan Board of Pharmacy. This session is intended to fulfill the training requirement for pharmacists seeking to obtain a controlled substance license. It is free for pharmacy faculty and preceptors, pharmacists, techs and student pharmacists.

Pharmacists, technicians, and student pharmacists are welcome. Pharmacists and technicians are eligible to earn 1.0 contact hours for attendance at this knowledge-based CPE activity.
Pharmacist and technician objectives:
1. Describe state and federal laws pertaining to prescribing and dispensing controlled substances, as well as issues surrounding controlled substance use
2. Identify opportunities to improve safety on controlled substances and communication techniques surrounding the effects and risks associated with their use
3. Discuss alternative treatments for pain management, integration of treatments, and medication-assisted therapy
