On Tuesday, Oct. 23, the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will host a forum and panel discussion on the proposed legalization of marijuana in Michigan. The Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act is on the Nov. 6 ballot. The event takes place in the EACPHS auditorium from 2-4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Speakers include:
- Scott Greenlee, president of Healthy and Productive Michigan (opposed)
- Barton Morris, Cannabis Legal Group (supporting)
- Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Randy Commissaris, who is researching the impact of marijuana on driving ability
- Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice Christine Rabinak, who recently spoke at a Congressional briefing on the use of cannabis products to treat PTSD in veterans
Attendees will learn:
- a brief history of marijuana and cannabis use
- some of the pharmacology/toxicology of marijuana
- an overview of the current state-wide ballot initiative proposing to legalize and tax recreational marijuana use
- some of the issues relating to marijuana use and stoned driving
- arguments supporting the legalization proposal
- arguments opposed to the legalization proposal
